Kind words from our guests
I attended Small Things Done Exceptionally Well with curiosity and left deeply moved. I’m not a builder, architect, or designer, but as an Aboriginal woman, I was drawn in by the conversations about care, intention, and connection - values that resonate strongly with our own ways of knowing and being on Country.
What resonated most was how the speakers spoke about design and construction not just as technical acts, but as practices of respect - for materials, for place, and for people. It reminded me of the way our Old People teach us to observe, listen, and work with the land rather than over it.
The space held a warm, relaxed atmosphere, ideal for meeting new people and sharing stories, ideas and perspectives. It was refreshing to see professionals taking the time to talk about doing things well, not just fast, or cheap. That simple principle - small things done with care - reflects the same philosophy our First Nations communities hold: that everything we do leaves an imprint, and that caring for place is caring for each other, now and into the future.
For me, this event showed that when we slow down, listen to Country, and act with purposeful intent based on respect, we create spaces that hold meaning. Even though I’m not from the industry, I felt completely included - and inspired.
Lisa's series/discussion panel was an absolute blast! Her concept to bring together people from all walks of the design industry - the thinkers, the tinkerers, designers, doers and go-getters - and peer into their minds, was not just fascinating and inspiring, but was and is simply appreciated. As a designer and fellow appreciator of small things done exceptionally well, it stoked that feeling of curiosity and possibility that simmers inside, stirring me to think, discuss, and want to create. Come along - I promise you won't regret the good thoughts, great food, and exceptional company!
These gatherings, where exceptional thinkers explore craft and intention, elevate our venue. We're honoured to have our members host events that foster meaningful exchange and look forward to many more held here at WorkLife.
What an evening – a beautiful space, delicious food, and room full of lovely folk there to soak up the inspiring insights from Lisa and her specialist guests. A proper reminder that small things (done well) really do make a big difference.
"Small Things Done Exceptionally Well” Lisa hosted well-guided conversations with Dan Haupton from Jardan and Barry Bradley of Architectural Hardwood Joinery, who shared insights that deepened my understanding of craft and intention. Dan's passionate explanation of joinery design and Bradley's profound relationship with timber captivated us all.
The culinary offerings matched the intellectual feast that shared the evening's theme through flavour and texture.
We departed with more conversation yet to be had with friends and peers, and a renewed appreciation for exceptional craftsmanship in all its forms.
